Unlike other new TLD’s, I think this one may have some potential from an domain investment standpoint and from a business perspective.
The new .tel TLD is a bit different from other TLD’s that have come down the pike. All other existing TLD’s map domain names to web sites via DNS. The .tel is not about web content
and does not use the DNS in this way. The .tel domain is the first TLD to use the DNS in an entirely new way, which is as a global data store.
The new .tel allows you to store, publish and update online all your contact information and keywords under your unique domain name, without the need for a website. It is simple, fast and accessible from any device.
The idea is for people to use .tel as a way of communicating directly with the person or company behind a particular Web site, using technologies such as voice over Internet Protocol, e-mail or Short Message Service (SMS). All a person has to do is remember your name to get in touch with you.
Check out these examples of how a .tel can be used.
